Small Images: 38th Anniversary Exhibition
February 15 – March 17, 2023
Reception: Wednesday, February 15, 4–6 p.m.
(Santa Barbara, Calif.) — After an eight year hiatus, The Atkinson Gallery will once again present its Small Images exhibition from Feb. 15 to March 17, 2023. Inaugurated in 1985, Small Images is a juried competition featuring regional artists working in all media, the exhibition’s only constraint is size – all works must be 18 inches or smaller in every dimension.
DUE DATE/ONLINE APPLICATION:
To enter the small images competition, artwork must be submitted by Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, 11:59 PST via ArtCall.org. Application portal to open here by January 5th, 2023.
Artists selected by the jury for the exhibition will be notified by email on Feb. 6, 2023. All artworks must be delivered to the gallery by 3:00 pm (PST) on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023. Following the end of the exhibition all artworks must be picked up by 3:00 pm (PST) on Monday, March 27, 2023. The gallery is not responsible for any artworks not picked up by this date and time.
ELIGIBILITY:
Artists living and working in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties.
2D work must be ready to hang and no larger than 18 inches in any direction, including frame.
3D work also must be 18 inches or less in any direction, excluding pedestals.
Multi-media work must include a monitor/projection device smaller than 18 inches in any direction.
Any media.
ENTRY FEES:
$30 entry fee; each additional entry $15. Maximum of 3 entries.

Now in its sixth edition, Lum is a Santa Barbara-based contemporary art magazine for California’s Central Coast. Focused on the here and now, Lum’s online space and print magazine provide a forum for critical conversations, advocacy and discovery around art.

The Atkinson Gallery, Santa Barbara City College Art Department's showcase for the visual arts, hosts exhibitions of contemporary art each academic year featuring international, national, regional and student artists working in a wide range of styles and media.
The gallery is located on SBCC’s east campus in room 202 of the Humanities Building. Gallery hours are: Monday–Thursday, 11a.m.–5p.m. and Fridays, 11a.m.–3p.m. or by appointment. All gallery exhibitions and lectures are free and open to the public.
