January 31-February 28, 2014
In our newly renovated space, the Atkinson Gallery will present Ann Diener's most recent drawings which she created by overlaying images of the city of Los Angeles as it now exists onto the historical blueprint, thus recording spaces from different time periods and a cacophony of architecture as diverse as its population. For this exhibit, Diener is working with volunteers to create a site-specific wall drawing in addition showing to several large works on paper and a series of small drawings. Diener received her BA from UCLA and her MFA from UCSB. Her one-person exhibitions include Bank Gallery in Los Angeles, the UCSB Art, Design and Architecture Museum in Santa Barbara, Electric Works Gallery in San Francisco and the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (now the Museum of Contemporary Art). Her work has been featured by Bank Gallery at several art fairs including Pulse in London, Aqua in Miami and Preview Berlin in Berlin. She was a resident artist at the American Academy in Rome and at Kaus Australis in Rotterdam. Her work has been reviewed in The Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, The San Francisco Chronicle, The SF Weekly, Artweek, Art Ltd., Art on Paper, the Santa Barbara News-Press and the Santa Barbara Independent.
